A Distaster At Madison
Travis Sauter had high hopes for his return to Madison International Speedway a yearafter falling 6 points short of a track championship, but it was an unpleasant
return to say the least. The team struggled all day to find the handle on the
Coleman Racing Products #119, and a poor qualifying effort left them with a lot of
cars to pass. In the heat race Travis lost the left rear wheel, leaving a lot of
work for the team just to get him out in time for the feature. They were able to
get it fixed and had time to make significant adjustments before the start of the
100 lap race. Starting 27th Travis picked off cars one by one and was able to move
into 15th position by the time the first caution fell at lap 48. As the field went
back to green Travis realized the right rear tire was going down, and had to make a
green flag stop. Returning to the race 6 laps down, Travis restarted at the tail of
the field and charged back through to race by cars that were running in the top
10. He ended the frustrating night in 24th place. "We were absolutely junk all
day, we changed about everything you can change, and right before the feature we
hit on something. Without the flat tire we might have had a top 5 car, but that
seems to be our luck lately. I'm really disappointed, that race meant a lot to me
and we didn't show what we're capable of. Kaukauna is next, I've never raced
there, but I still expect to be a contender. Hopefully we will turn our luck
around.
