Driver Bio I Travis Sauter
Travis Sauter grew up in Central Wisconsin with the strong desire to follow in the footsteps of the Sauter men before him. Like his grandfather, Jim, a former Winston Cup and current IROC driver, his uncles, Johnny and Jay, and his father Tim, all three NASCAR drivers, Travis has the determination and the talent to achieve success. As a child Travis enjoyed attending races and helping his father in the shop, but never got behind the wheel until after high school. After graduating high school in 2000, Travis enrolled in classes at UW-LaCrosse. That same year his father was offered a ride in the NASCAR Busch Series. Travis finished the year at UW-L, but with his family moving to North Carolina, he didn’t want to stay behind. In the summer of 2001 he was hired to work as a mechanic at AP Performance Racing, the team his uncle Johnny was driving for in ASA. After a dominating season, in which they won half the races and the series championship, Travis decided to move back to Wisconsin and start racing himself.
Armed with the racing knowledge of someone many years older, Travis spent 2002 building a race car and assembling a pit crew to help him locally. They finished the car about mid summer and took to the track. He saw immediate success and was ready for the next season. In 2003, he scored 4 feature wins and qualified in the top 2 every race. That same year he recorded fast time in his super late model debut.
From 2004 to 2006, Travis captured 7 wins, 25 top 5’s, and 30 top ten finishes in 40 starts. In 2006, he narrowly missed the track championship at Madison International Speedway, leading the points the entire season, before a flat tire in the season finale left him 6 points short.
Since 2007 Travis has run many ASA Midwest Tour races along with other special events. In 29 ASA starts he has 1 win, 2 fast times, 11 top 5’s and 18 top 10’s. In 2009 Travis won the prestigious Oktoberfest 100 at La Crosse Fairgrounds Speedway.
Away from racing Travis enjoys sports, movies, video games and spending time with his wife, Amber.
